Today I went to Philippi WV. They have a covered bridge that is two lanes wide. It is the site of the first land battle of the civil war. I tried to get some pictures. The bridge was so long it was hard to get the full length in one picture. I couldn't stand back far enough. We went to the museum across the bridge and heard all about the story of the bridge. We also had the oppurtunity to see two mummies. They are not wrapped. I took some pictures if anyone wants to see them send me a request. I didn't want to post them for fear of being called morbid. But the mummies were two women who were patients at the Weston State Hospital. The Weston State Hospital was a mental institution and when the women died they were left unclaimed so a man took them and embalmbed them with arsenic and another substance. I can't remember what it was. One woman was 22 when she died the other was 33. Here is a link to the story.

Part of the Phillipi covered bridge, sight of the first land battle of the civil war.

A little better shot. I still can't believe I have this much history in my back yard.

The end of the bridge.

This was a nice shot.

A little history if you can read it.
