A new gift

Long story but worth reading. I wanted to go to Clarksburg to see about getting a new entertainment center. My other one was so big and bulky, not to mention we have had it for atleast 6 years. It was getting worn out. Mom goes with me to Clarksburg. We go to sears and I am looking for clothes. I went to the mall first because I didn't want to get the new entertainment center and leave it in the back of the truck for someone to grab it while we are shopping. I find some jeans and tell mom I am going to go try them on. she says ok, I'll be over here somewhere. I didn't see where she was pointing and when I got out of the dressing room I couldn't find her. I finally did, over in home appliances. I said what are you doing over here and she said I just bought something. I said what did you buy, and she points at this upright freezer. I said why did you buy a freezer? She says for you, Merry Christmas! I was floored, I knew that mom said we had another gift coming. I just knew she bought me a quilt from ebay. I was totally convinced. Little did I know she was planning on going with me to get an upright freezer. We got the new freezer loaded into the truck, now she has a small pickup truck. The guys loaded it into the truck but they would not strap the freezer for us. They were not allowed to because of liability issues. Stupid if you ask me, but I suppose I can understand. Well, here we are two women with a pick up truck and a freezer in the back, no straps. Well, I should say we had a strap, but it was soaked and twisted we couldn't use it if we tried, and we did. We tried. no luck. So away we went. Mom was panicked. Every time we made a turn or gave the truck a little bit of gas that freezer would move. We were a good ways from home. No men around to help us. We really needed it this time. We got on the interstate and it started to fall over backwards. Mom started yelling and hit the brakes and to the side of the road we went. We decided to lay it down part way, not totally flat. Well it went a little better from then on. Mom still did not want to go over 45 miles an hour. The speed limit is 70. I told mom she had better turn the four way on so we don't get rear ended. After we crossed a bridge or two we got over on the shoulder and drove real slow with the four ways on til we got to our exit. About 2 miles or so, not bad you say. Well you are not a panicked woman with 400 bucks worth of merchandise in the back of your truck ready to fall out at the drop of a hat. We get on route 20, another 25 minutes worth of driving if you are driving the speed limit. We weren't. Mom would pull over on occasion to let others go around. We were five miles from home when a state cop got behind us. Mom thought we were goners right then and there. We found another place to pull over and he went around us. Never even gave it a thought to pull us over for mopeing. Well we got it home. My dear hubby got it off the truck and onto the back porch. we had to saw the boards that were bolted to the bottom of it off to get it in the house. We got it in the house and took the boards off the bottom and got it ready to go down to the basement. No folks the journey is not over yet. We get it to the steps and it barely fits through the basement door. We get started. The hubby is going backwards down the stairs, I have it on the sides. Well, I get my wrists to the door frame. they are not going through that door frame. I said honey hang on my arms won't fit. He keeps moving and I am saying honey stop! My arms won't fit let me grab i....... The freezer goes sliding down the stairs and my dear hubby is barely able to get the thing stopped. Yes people I dropped it and let it go. You would not believe how easily that thing slid down those steps. Well the dear hubby kept going til he hit a place to brace himself and the freezer was pressed hard against his legs, and all that held him and the freezer there was the Grace of God. Thank you Jesus. There were no injuries and the freezer got a couple of dents in it. The freezer still works just fine. We both came out laughing. I was really sore the next morning, my arms and legs hurt pretty good. The dear hubby was fine. He was not sore at all. Thank you mom for the freezer. It is wonderful and now I can store all the frozen food I need. Lord knows we like to hord food around here. Now we can hord frozen food too.

Oh yeah! The entertainment center. Nah didn't get it that night. We were so panicked over the freezer I said lets just get this thing home and we will go back Saturday and get the entertainment center. We went back Saturday and got it. We ( actually it was mostly the dear hubby) got it together and got everything rearranged. I took the old (big) entertainment center and put it in the family room. The new one looks good. Makes the living room look bigger. The new entertainment center is much smaller. Christmas break is almost over and life gets back to normal. Hallelujah! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
