Man, what a day. I go get my hair cut. I get home and all hell has broken loose. My mom has tried to call, and just about everyone else. I tried to call my mom back. BUSY. I walk through the living room and here it over the police scanner. "one teacher shot at the high school" OMG!!!!!! Every cop in the county is headed to the high school including fire and EMS. I try to call my husband who is working on the roof of a house up the road. He doesn't answer his cell. I try calling my neighbor who also has kids at the high school. I can't get hold of anybody! I pray! I panic! I pray! I panic! What do I do? Do I go to the school or do I stay home? Mom calls me back and I get a very sturn "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?" She tells me there is a possible shooting at the highschool. A student called it in from a payphone inside the school. They believe it is a hoax, but the school is on lockdown. I call Cassie's cell. She answers and she sounds fine. I ask, how are you?......
Cassie: I am fine
ME: Are you sure?
Cassie: yeah
Me: did you hear anything?
Cassie: no
Me: no gun shots or anything?
Cassie: no, Nanny called me and told me what was happening.
Cassie: We are locked in the classroom, The door is locked and the window is covered.
Me: I love you
Cassie: I love you too......
Me: Call me if anything happens. I am gonna make some calls, I will call you back.....
Cassie: ok
Me: I love you
Cassie: I love you too
I am on the phone with so many people. Cassies friends moms are calling me. They know I have a scanner. Darrells bosses are calling, they need him to get to the bus garage, there is talk of evacuating the school. I can't reach him and noone else can either. I hear that this is possibly a hoax. As the minutes go by and the more I hear on the scanner. I am sure it is a hoax. I know that the officers need to do their job. I know that I cannot get to the school to get her. I know that she is ok. I am faced with the decision to leave the house to get my husband to the bus garage or stay at the house and hope he answers his Cell. After three tries to his cell and the boss calling again. I decide to leave the house to go get him. I call my mom and ask her to call my cell if she hears anything. I get to the house up the road and pull up. Darrell says, "what is up with all the sirens?" I tell him and his other boss, who also drives bus, There is a possible shooting at the high school, you guys need to be in your buses waiting incase they decide to evacuate. they both nearly fell off the roof. I go back home. Again this decision is based on the fact, the school is not ready to handle parents coming to the school and the scene has yet to be cleared. I call Cassie........
Cassie: hello?
Me: Hi baby
Cassie: hi mommy, what is happening?
Me: they are having the bus drivers go to the bus garage in case they evacuate
Cassie: ok
Me: are you ok?
Cassie: I am fine mommy
Me: how is your blood sugar? (why I didn't ask earlier? who knows?)
Cassie: I guess it is ok
Me: is there food in that classroom?
Cassie: yeah, My teacher has food
Me: ask her to give it to you if you need it.
Cassie: ok will do.
Me: I love you
Cassie: I love you too
Me: I am gonna go again I will call you if I hear anything else
Cassie: ok, I will call you if i hear anything
Me: ok, I love you bye....
Letting her off the phone was hard, yet I knew I could not keep her on the phone all the time. I was also keeping other parents and family members up to par on what was happening. Not to mention listening to the police talk about what they were doing in the school. I hear that they may have suspects in the ceiling on the second floor. IN THE CEILING! mom calls and asks where is cassie in the school? gosh I never thought to ask! You really don't think clear in these situations. I call her back.......
Cassie: Hello?
Me: where are you?
Cassie: um... Mrs. Travises room.
Me: I knew that much, what floor are you on?
Cassie: the second floor.
Me: ok, there are students in the ceiling above the second floor.
Cassie: ok, I don't hear anything.
Me: Just wanted to call and let you know. I have to go. I need to call the other parents
Cassie: ok I love you.
Me: I love you too
This chaos just keeps going on. It is insanity. I have to set here. I know my baby is locked in a class room. I know she has not eaten lunch. I know I am nervous. I know I trust the officials. I leave my baby in their hands. and I set, and I pray, and I call other parents and fill them in as new details become available. Cassie calls me.....
Cassie: they are evacuating us to the stadium
Me: now?
Cassie: soon
Me: what is going on? are you away from the door?
Cassie: we are huddled in the corner, we are on top of each other
Cassie: wait a minute, I just got word the cops stormed into a classroom guns pulled and told everyone to get in the floor
Me: Oh my, what do you know?
Cassie: they are looking for something.
Me: ok, Are you feeling ok? is your sugar good?
Cassie: I am fine
Me: ok, I love you I have to go
Cassie: I love you too.
I get a phone call from a neighbor that they have begun to allow parents on school grounds to get their kids. ID is a requirement. I call mom and tell her, She tells me to take something to school for Cassie to drink, for her blood sugar. she says she is coming to the house, I said are you going with me? She says no she is coming to the house to get miah incase I don't get back in time to get him. I told her good thinking. I hear on the scanner that crowd control is needed. The parents are getting out of hand. I run around the house trying to decide what to wear. why? I need pockets, these pants don't have pockets, it is hot outside. I am not wearing pants. I put on my jean shorts. they have pockets. Dang it I need to shave! who cares? not me! I grab my purse and phone and run out of the house. Dang it I forgot the drink. Oh well. she won't need it. I get in the van And off I go. I stop at the gas station on the way and decide to get sweets. there is quite a ways to walk and I know she will need something to keep her blood sugar up. I get up to the school and it is unreal. there are cars parked everywhere. I have to circle around after asking an officer about how to go about getting my daughter. I have to walk up the driveway and get to the school that way. I park the van and walk the half mile to the school. I get up to the school parking lot and the line is neverending. Parents waiting believe it or not patiently to get their kids. I have to go to the concession stand to sign cassie out and wait for them to call her. My neighbor finds me and lets me get in line with her, she says she knows Cass needs to get out of there and eat so her blood sugar does not plummet. which reminds me, Last time I talked to cass I told her to put food from the classroom in her purse to go to the stadium, and I told her I am on my way. I get her signed out and hear them call her name. she calls me and asks where I am and I tell her I am by the womens restroom. She says ok. Her friend who has been with her the whole time gets signed out after Cass and gets down to her mom before Cass. She went up to get Cassie for me. We walk back to the van and go for food. We are home now. Cass is spending the evening with a friend, at the neighbors. I think she needs to be with friends. It will help her. she really does seem to be ok. I thank God this whole thing was a hoax. I am glad to have both of my kids home and my hubby home with me this evening. A day like this reminds you just how important every moment is. On that note...... I am going to go spend some time with my family.

Meet Steve
I would like for you all to meet Steve. Yes this cabbage has a name. Jeremiah came home from school with a cabbage and he named it. Why did he name it? I don't know. Leave it to my son to name his cabbage. But I thought it was so cute that I had to share it
with all of you. I have to monitor Steve's progress and weigh him at the end of his growth cycle. We are to care Steve through May 26. The student with the heaviest cabbage gets entered into a contest to win a 1,000.00 Scholarship. A scholarship for what? Plant school? I really don't understand why school administrators are encouraging our children to grow cabbage plants for money. What does this have to do with anything? Oh well. It makes for a good memory. My son named his cabbage plant Steve!
